George Swinburne the founder of Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia started of with the Eastern Suburbs Technical College in 1908 which is now known as Swinburne University. Initialy it was a technical college teaching carpentry, gas fitting and plumbing.
In the year 1913 it was renamed as Swinburne Technical College. In the later stagses that is after the world war 2 the technical college started to introduce courses like mechnical engineering, electrical engineering, computer programming, television, chemistry and film. When there was in increase of overseas students in started international transition course in the year 1960.
The introduction of sandwich courses was made in the civil engineering courses, in the year 1980 revolution in the field of education gave boost to Swinburne Technical College moved into Swinburne University status. It all began from a local technical college in Hawthorn to a international university in southeast Asia.
